If you've read a French home-insurance policy, you've probably met the mysterious term “serrure A2P”. Here's what it means, why your insurer cares, and how to choose the right level.
A2P (Assurance Prévention Protection) is the official French certification for burglary-resistant locks, cylinders and door blocks, issued by the CNPP laboratory. Products are physically attacked in the lab — picking, drilling, snapping, brute force — and certified only if they resist long enough.

The same logic exists for armoured door blocks, rated A2P BP1, BP2 and BP3.
Most burglars give up after a few minutes of failed attempts: noise and time are their enemies. That's exactly what A2P buys you. Practically, many French insurance policies require a 3-point or A2P lock for full coverage, especially in Paris. After a burglary, the insurer may ask for the lock's certificate and the locksmith's invoice — if the equipment doesn't match the policy, compensation can be reduced.
The classic certified French brands are Fichet, Picard, Bricard, Vachette, Héraclès and Mottura. Expect from about €190 for a certified cylinder alone, and from €390 installed for a 3-point A2P lock. We supply the certificate with the invoice, in English or French, so your insurance file is complete from day one.

An A2P lock on a weak door is like a bank vault door on a garden shed. If your door panel or frame is fragile, reinforcement or an armoured block may matter more than the lock's stars — we assess this honestly during a free visit.
